summary
|
Remember WENN -- Ending comments, 1998 |
AMC canceled Remember WENN after the fourth season stating it had not generated enough interest and there were now enough episodes for reruns. Season 4 was slightly dull and I agree that the show had run its course. Even I would have stopped after season 5. However, it would have been nice if they had at least run a one hour special and wrapped up a few loose ends. That would have brought the show up to the quality of the best limited run British sitcoms I have watched.
|
Remember WENN -- Ending comments, 2003 |
I wasn't entirely happy with the end of the series when it initially aired. It was as if they accidentally left it at a cliff hanger and there was inadequate closure. But in the sping of 2003 I rewatched the entire show about three episodes a week over a period of 5 months. I've changed my mind. Watching the shows close together gives the story line better continuity and more tightly binds the personalities of the characters to the story.
The last episode ended with the start of the USA participation in WW2. That was a major change for the US and I suspect its radio stations. It was a good place to end. The conclusion could have completed the three romances, possibly giving a happy ending and better closure, but leaving each with a cliff hanger was better. In fact, when the camera focused on Betty to hear her decision on choosing Victor or Scott, my thought was "end it now" just a few seconds before the credits rolled. I thought it was perfect.
